Make plans now to join the TNBC group for this year's Christmas Party on Saturday, December 18th, 6:00 - 9:00PM. Wear your festive holiday attire and come with an appetite for great food & good times! Everyone should bring:

1) Non-perishable food item for food bank donation AND
2) a cheap (less than $5.00) gag/goofy gift for the "Gift Exchange Game" AND
3) $5.00 bill for TNBC sponsorship of Trujillo Christian School student

TNBC Thanksgiving Fruit Baskets Deliveries...

This Sunday, Nov. 14th, our teens (6-12th gr.) will be preparing, praying over, & delivering special Thanksgiving fruit baskets to some of our West Metro members & also to some in our community in need of some encouragement & assistance. We'll be loading/preparing the baskets during bible class time and then we'll pray over the baskets. We'll also be looking over our delivery list & breaking it down into geographic zones & forming small groups to go into each of these areas for deliveries later that afternoon. The groups will meet at WMCoC again at 3:00pm to get their baskets & start making deliveries. All groups will then return to WMCoC when deliveries are finished for hot chocolate, snacks, campfire, & devo!

Sunday, October 24th is: TNBC Corn Maze Day!

Sunday, Oct. 24th is:
TNBC Corn MAZE Day!!!
We'll all attend the early worship service at 8AM & leave right after the bible classes around 10:30-ish & get some lunch @ Stevie B's, then head to the farm for the Corn MAZE & other 'Farm FUN'!!! Around 5PM we'll start heading back home to West Metro for dinner, a bonfire, & singing that should wrap up around 7PM when the evening worship service is ending. The cost for the entire day of FUN, Food, & Fellowship is only: $15.00 !!!
Don't miss it! We want every single student in the 6-12 grade TNBC group to enjoy this event!

"IDOL Worship!"

#2 - "You shall not make for yourself an idol..."

Exodus 20:4

In Exodus 32 when Moses is on the mountain with God (and has been for some time) the Hebrew people come to Aaron & say, "Come, make us gods who will go before us." Aaron proceeded to gather their gold earrings, melt them down, and cast & fashion the gold with a tool into an idol in the form of a calf. The people then said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt." In less than forty days the people grew anxious and discontented to point of having Aaron "make" a new object for them to worship. The Hebrews were people like us in that they/we must worship something. We as human beings will always seek something to devote ourselves to, to give meaning/purpose to our lives ... something to worship. If anything other than God fills that role in our lives, the results are disastrous! He knows this and commands that we worship Him not for His sake but rather for our own good. It's so easy to get distracted. It's so easy for something/someone to come between us & God and eclipse our view of His greatness & love toward us. We then let our fixed gaze/devotion follow along with that "idol" away from the one who loves us more than any other. Choose today to do whatever it takes to continually focus your worship on the only one worthy of it: the great "I AM".

#1 - "You shall have no other Gods before me." Exodus 20:3

This past Wednesday night I began a new study with the high school class. We'll be studying the ten commandments & the corresponding New Testament teachings that are still very applicable for us today. #1 above is the basis for everything else. He is God. There is no other than the great "I AM." He is God and we are not. The Israelites repeatedly forgot this primary directive over the course of their existence. Time would pass and circumstaces would change and they would forget how great God is and how much He loved them. Things aren't any different for us in 2010. We must systematically/purposefully remind each other that there is nothing else in this life worthy of our worship than God Almighty. Our lives and the deceptive world we live in can easily lead us to put any number of things in God's place. We can't let ourselves become like those mentioned in Romans 1 who, "exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator..." Today & all this week worship Him! Praise Him, give thanks, & glorify God for all that He has done in your life! Let others see that you worship & serve Him alone. - Kevin

Hey everybody! It's been quite a while since I updated the youth ministry blog... sooo...

I've posted photo albums (below) from all of the major events that we've done over the summer & fall of 2009. SNL! was fantastic! We had a group of between 110-120 from five different church teen groups in attendance. Praise God for all that He has done to bring us together and make the SNL! events successful in the 08-09 school year! Here comes graduation month & summer's right around the corner...

Snow Mountain!!! (Let's Go TUBING!)

It's tubin time! This Saturday morning, we're going snow tubing at 'Snow Mountain' in Stone Mountain Park. I've got 35 tickets (all claimed at this time) for those who have already signed up for them on the youth board. Only a few have paid though, so make sure to bring your $22 for your ticket on Saturday morning. We'll leave the church parking lot at 8:00AM and return that afternoon around 2-3PM. Be sure to bring a sack lunch for after we finish tubing. If you have any questions, call Kevin's cell# 770-866-4686. If you claimed a ticket but won't be able to go after all, CALL KEVIN so your ticket can be bought/used by someone else. Dress in warm, layered clothing and come ready to have some serious winter FUN! -Kevin

We've got a lot of things planned for the new year so make sure you use the activities/events calendar at the bottom of this blog page. This calendar will be continually updated with all of the most current info about all of the activities/events we've got going on in 2009 for students & families. You can print hard-copies, forward links to the calendar to friends/family, use it as one of your homepages, check it on your mobile browser on your phone, ... and whatever else you can come up with, but however you do it, just make sure to keep your eyes on it so you don't miss out on anything!

OK, everybody... here's my latest attempt at communicating better with all of you in the West Metro Church of Christ Youth & Family Ministries. I've been researching, gathering ideas, & collecting info (read- finding cool/usable stuff to rip & copy) for the last few months since school started and today is launch day! I'm going to be linking this blog to the main church website and using it post all of the latest, juiciest, most exciting news so all of you can be totally informed about all of the great things we do together throughout the year.
